What to Do If Your Blog Grows Bigger Than Expected
Most bloggers are happy to have a few people reading their posts every week and if some extra views happen here and there it’s a nice “Brucey bonus”. I’m totally on board with this approach and have always felt stressing over numbers takes the fun out of blogging. However, sometimes, your blog can grow to epic proportions, pretty much overnight.
For a lot of bloggers, this is not something that they expect, and so it can be a challenge to figure out what steps to take next. Before doing anything though … CELEBRATE. You must be doing something right if so many people want to read your blog! HURRAH! Once you’ve popped a bottle or two, though, it’s time to start thinking about your next steps.
Get a Solid Strategy in Place
A larger audience means that you will need to think about how to manage such a plethora of subscriptions. You need a strategy in place to decide how often to schedule and release content to keep your readership high.
Just getting a strategy down on paper will make everything feel more manageable and will relieve a lot of the stress. You’ll also be able to adjust your strategy when needed should you find some ideas simply aren’t working.
Reward With Content
Your readers flocked to your blog for the top-quality content, so you may as well reward them by offering even more. Now is the time for you to take the next step in your blogging journey. This means unique posts that deliver fantastic value for your readers rather than the same old articles that already frequent other blogs.
A celebratory post is the best place to start, as this allows you to give thanks to the people who have gotten you to where you are today. From there, you can ask for ideas about the type of content that they want to see and appeal to your new audience more broadly.
Invest in Your Blog
Most bloggers will use a free template on WordPress or a similar platform, but while these templates are useful to get started, they cannot always provide the features and support that you need.
As you’ll be using your blog more frequently now, it’s time to invest in your blog. This means improving the layout, working on different aspects and pages, and also using the right plugins to enhance the reader experience every time they visit.
Think About Merchandise
Now that your blog has become your brand, you can think about investing in some merchandise. Everyone loves merch, and it’s an excellent way for your readers to support you. Your merchandise can be t-shirts, buttons, tote bags, or whatever you feel best reflects your brand.
Top Tip: Consider using polystyrene packaging to send this merch out to your subscribers to guarantee it makes it there in one piece so that there is no disappointment for your dedicated readers and fans.
Success in the Blogosphere
It could be a gradual following that you’ve built up, or it could be one particular post that makes it big overnight. Whatever the reason for your newfound blogging success, you’ve got to make it count. By understanding how you can make the most of your blog from now on, you can make sure that your readers’ faith and support is worth it.
