Creative Chaos: Introducing my Obsession
Madness in the Method
I have had somewhat of an epiphany. The thing I love best about creating art is the journey into the unknown. In fact I have come to realise that I have been intentionally sabotaging myself in the best way in order to bring forth beauty and meaning from chaos.
If I look upon a blank piece of paper, palpitations commence and my mind goes into shut down, there are simply too many possibilities that it becomes difficult to think clearly. At this point I welcome any sort of order.
But there is still that monstrous part of my psyche looking to chaos like a dangerous friend…So much could go wrong if followed, but equally personal growth is encouraged through experience.
From the blank page horror transcends a new kingdom of chaos. I intentionally start my journey with the random; creating a background layer that is left all to chance – aside from colour choice, over which I possess some slight control.
From this point I will examine the result and wait for a creative subconscious spark to arise from the depths. It is now time for the magic to begin. My sole task from this moment is to throw myself wholeheartedly into the unknown.
Sometimes this can feel like a tug of war, as I pull at strings of consciousness and former learning, in the hope of accurate transmission from my brain to the page.
Often times this is painful, as old wounds resurface and conjure dark thoughts. You must walk through this. You must walk the path of personal truth.
I would like to share with you some of the results of my experiments. Maybe you might also derive some inner meaning from this journey? Or alternatively you may just appreciate the ride?
