eCommerce Web Design Trends for 2019
Did you know that in 2018 1.79 BILLION online transactions were made? By 2021, that figure is set to rise to 2.14 BILLION digital sales per year. Yes, that’s in the BILLIONS people!! I don’t know about you, but that data has sparked my intrigue. So, in the interest of keeping up with the digital era, let’s explore some major eCommerce web design trends…
Large Lifestyle Imagery
This is a trend which is really flourishing at the moment and it is showing no signs of slowing down either. So, what is large lifestyle imagery? This is essentially images which are big in size and show the product you are selling in situations the customer can relate to. For example, instead of merely taking a picture of a dress laid out on a plain background they will show the dress on a model. Another example of this could be a stereo system. The image will show the stereo on a desk in a room or an office.
You could have a beach towel laid across the sand whilst happy holidaymakers sip on their cocktails. You could display a dining set at a table whilst a family tuck into their Sunday dinner. The options are endless. But why is this a successful eCommerce WordPress web design trend? The consumer visualises what it would be like to own and use the product. It has a much bigger impact than merely seeing it against a white background.
Custom Iconography
This is one of the newest eCommerce website design trends. The idea is to generate your own custom icons. There are a lot of benefits to be gained by doing this. One of the main advantages is the fact that you will attract the consumer’s attention and thus hold onto their attention for a lot longer.
However, the benefits run much deeper than this. Iconography can play an essential role when it comes to your company’s branding strategy. It helps to strengthen your corporate image and says a lot about your brand’s voice. It can also work really well if you need to create specific moods. These are all factors that can be used to your advantage in order to maximise the overall effect of your business’s image.
Responsive Design
Responsive design is more of a necessity than an actual trend. It is something all companies need to embrace if they are to be successful in the digital era. After all, there are a wealth of different platforms available nowadays, such as tablets, smartphones and alike. You must offer an eCommerce website design which is viewable on all platforms.
This is all about considering the user experience and this experience must be consistent on all browser dimensions. This is what responsive design is all about. If you resize the browser then the images and content should expand or shrink to suit the size and the quality should not be compromised either.
Minimalistic Themes
This is a trend which is being embraced by so many website owners at present. Minimalist eCommerce website design involves taking the simplistic approach. Everything is clean-cut and straight to the point; which is exactly what users want when they are shopping on the internet. They don’t want the fuss and the clutter. Everything has to be straightforward and easy to grasp which is exactly what minimalism is based on. Moreover, it is also an extremely successful design option because it is bold and makes an instant impression.
So, how do you emulate this eCommerce website design theme properly? Engaging photos are key to the success of this design. They play a massive role. Furthermore, minimalistic themes give you the potential to incorporate exciting and creative typography as well. Nevertheless the key is this; only include it if necessary. If you are pondering whether to incorporate a certain fact about your product ask yourself:
- Do the customers need to know this?
- Will they want to know this?
