Blogger Outreach 101 for Bloggers and Brands

Have you heard of the phrase blogger outreach?  No worries if not, I hadn’t until January.  But now I think it’s literally the best thing since sliced bread.  This process has allowed me to monetize my site whilst getting paid to do something that I love.

If you don’t know what I’m harping on about stick with me, it’s good I promise!  By the end of this post both Bloggers and Brands alike should leave with a clear idea of what blogger outreach is and how you can make it work for you.

But first of all … what does it all mean Basil!

What is Blogger Outreach?

Blogger outreach (or Blogger relations) is when a brand or business hires a blogger to write about their products and/or services.  This collaboration results in a paid project for the Blogger (YAY) and genuine, authentic content for the Brand.

This exchange should be mutually beneficially for both parties providing both Brands and Bloggers play their parts.

  • Brands – Please pay fairly for the service you are provided, you can’t expect Bloggers to work for free.
  • Bloggers – Please create high quality content with all the relevant links embedded naturally into the content.

Blogger Outreach for Brands

In my previous post I discussed why businesses should make it their priority to work with Bloggers in an outreach capacity.  If you would like a more detailed break down, please refer back to this post.  However, for the purpose of today, I will do a recap of the most important benefits for your brand.

Boosted Website Rankings

This is arguably one of the most attractive prospects for Brands.  Have you ever heard of SEO? What about link building? Nope? Well, in order for your website to rank highly in the search engine results pages, you need what we in the biz call backlinks.  By we in the biz I mean anyone with a website, I just wanted to sound fancy.

The more external websites that link back to your website, the more trusted your site is deemed to be by the search engines.  In an ideal world you want to appear in the first two pages of the search engine results pages.  Trust me when I say, there isn’t a chance in hell that you can achieve this without a plethora of quality links back to your site from reputable sources.

Boosted Brand Reach

If you run a blog, then building up a social media presence is at the forefront of your mission.  For businesses, this means that on top of an existing and engaged readership, your Blogger will have an active social media following full of potential new customers.  This is amazing for brand awareness!  When a post mentioning your business is shared on social media, your over all brand reach increases.

Nothing looks better on the socials, than a mention of your brand from another user with some good social stats behind them!

Blogger Outreach for Bloggers

I think I’m biased on this subject, because I have had a string of enjoyable experiences recently.  Here are two of the main benefits I have found whilst participation in the Blogger outreach process.

Paid Blogging Opportunities

If you are anything like me, you might find it intimidating to approach Brands directly.  I love the fact that I can use a Blogger Outreach programme as the middle man.  You can browse opportunities and apply for the ones that resonate with you and your Blog.  When I write my application, I always make a point to mention my social media stats for each platform.   This shows that I take my craft seriously!

Gain Writing Experience

Whilst you are not always guaranteed to be offered the opportunity, even taking part in the application process can help you hone your craft.  If you are accepted for an assignment, then even better!  Once you start to publish posts for Brands, this will provide you ‘a leg to stand on‘ portfolio wise, if you wish to start approaching brands directly.

Most assignments will allow you to keep creative control, providing that you stay true to the anchor text and hyper links provided.  I personally find this helpful as it provides me with a framework and a topic to write about!

What’s Next?

If you are a Brand or a Blogger looking to join a Blogger outreach programme, I highly recommend !  The process couldn’t be simpler.  Brands can join and post their specific content requirements and anchor links.  Bloggers can apply for these assignments.

Meanwhile the Get Blogged team works tirelessly behind the scenes to get assignments up and running, vet applications and check for quality across the board.  I have really enjoyed using this programme.  Since joining in mid January, I have taken part in four assignments.

I can’t speak highly enough of Get Blogged!

P.s. Found this post helpful, why not buy me a coffee?  It’s like busking but for the interweb 🙂

Blogger outreach programmes are great! I’ve had a few things through them. I’d not heard of the one you suggested though so I’ll go check them out.

Which ones do you use?! They often have food blog assignments so you would be perfect for those 🙂 I’m a bit bummed about the new Moz DA measurement though. Erg it’s cost me money 😂
