Even the Best Business Owners Still Need Guidance
Even the best business owners still need to seek advice from others. In fact, the best are those that constantly consult other people for ideas and advice. This can result in better decision making and more trust from the people around you. Being the big cheese doesn’t automatically mean that you need to know everything. Often, the most inspiring quality in a leader can be to show that you are human just like the rest of us! ALL humans can get by with a little help from their friends … and the odd industry specialist of course!
So, here are just some of the ways that you can seek guidance as a business owner or industry leader.
Read Books and Blogs
Books and blogs – such as this one 😉 are a great place to go for FREE business advice. You’ll find books and articles out there written on practically every topic. Just make sure that this information is still current. A book on marketing from the 70s may not be useful in today’s business world. My previous post Marketing Tips for Your Business Venture might be a little more relevant … Feel free to have a read!
Attend Workshops
Workshops are great events for learning new business skills. They’re also great opportunities to network. Try looking online for a business coach that offers these workshops. You’ll find workshops dedicated to everything from social media marketing to using accounting software.
Watch YouTube Videos
There are lots of business coaches on YouTube who may be able to teach you business skills for free. Like books and blogs, you can watch these videos in your own time and go back to them if you need to recall certain tips.
Take a Course
You may even decide that you want to take a course in a business subject. This could be anything from marketing to computing. Not only will you develop your knowledge, but you’ll gain a qualification that you can use to prove that you are an expert in your field.
Outsource Advisors
Many business owners will pay for professional advice. Legal advice can be useful for gaining an understanding of business law and for getting you out of sticky legal situations. Financial advice meanwhile may be useful when taking out loans, making cutbacks or seeking investment. Tech advice can be useful when choosing technology and software for your business or when fixing tech faults. Then there’s HR support, which could be useful when recruiting employees.
Listen to Your Customers
Sometimes your customers can teach you a thing or two. Encouraging customer feedback can let you know things that you are doing well and not so well. This can help you to make improvements. Such feedback could include surveys, public reviews or focus group feedback.
Listen to Your Employees
Your employees can also be a source of guidance. Many of the best employers hire employees who can bring new skills to the workplace. By conducting a meeting and sharing ideas, your team can help to suggest improvements on how to make your business better. This will make employees feel more valued and they’ll care more about the success of your business!
